The JMS PTO is promoting our Holiday Cash Raffle! Today each student received a fundraising packet with (1) raffle booklet (6 tickets in each booklet, and each ticket is numbered.) The Holiday Cash Raffle tickets sell for $2.00 each lor 6 tickets/booklet sells for $10.00. This means if you sell or buy 5 raffle tickets you earn 1 FREE ticket! The cash raffle fundraiser will run through Wednesday, December 14th. Cash Prize Winners will be announced at our Holiday Concert, which is also December 14. The winner does not need to be present to win! We will once again offer student reward prizes to encourage participation! Be sure to check out the reward prizes for selling tickets as well as important dates below! |
Linscott-Rumford Appliance Recycling Collection This is an excellent opportunity to recycle items at a minimal cost compared to the higher cost of curbside appliance recycling programs and this is also a fundraiser for a local organization. Another good thing and possibly the best part of this program is that it is open to residents from any and all communities, not just Woburn, as well as any and all business entities. With your help these collections have raised over $90,000 for local Woburn organizations with a portion going to the Woburn High School Scholarship Fund in the almost 4 years! This collection will be held on Saturday, November 19 from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. at Woburn’s Spence Farm located at 41 Wyman Street, in Woburn benefitting the Linscott-Rumford PTO and all their activities. A portion of the proceeds will be going towards the scholarship fund for a Woburn High School graduating senior that will be continuing their education in the field of environmental education. |
In honor of Veterans' Day, Best Buddies is sponsoring a collection for our local troops. We will be sending packages once again to our local service people serving in Afghanistan. Last year we sent 40 packages to 10 troops that had local connections. This year we would like to adopt some troops with local ties and send them holiday packages and give the rest of our collection to the Elks who are also doing a collection. On Monday,October 17th NSTAR held a school wide assembly educating Joyce Middle School students on energy-saving light bulbs and energy conservation. In conjunction, Principal Qualey, the Joyce PTO and NSTAR are pleased to bring back the Change a Light, Change the World compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) fundraiser. NSTAR will generously donate the bulbs AND the Joyce will keep 100% of the profits. Brochures and order forms went home with students on Tuesday. This program is offered for a limited time- all orders must be received by November 2nd. Order forms are also available in the school office; or emailofficers@joycepto.org to receive an order form. After questions about the authenticity of this program we contacted a doctor's office in Boston which did verify this program, however, they could not provide us with information on who actually runs this program. We have exciting news! Andrea Harding and her husband, Channel 5 Anchor, Ed Harding will be joining us on Wednesday Night, April 27th at the parent anti-bullying seminar! Andrea and Ed are passionate in supporting parent's voices to end bullying. As Originating Principals for anti bull-e gear they will kick off the seminars by sharing their experience and learning about bullying in our children's lives.
Presenters from the Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center @ Bridgewater State University (founded by Dr. Elizabeth Englander to bring Anti-Bullying services to Massachusetts schools) will then share how school problems and cyber-issues impact friendships, and what to discuss with your child to reduce the risk that he or she will become involved. Wondering how to talk to your child about bullying? Wondering how you can protect your child(ren) from bullying? Learn practical strategies! Learn about recent research on how bullying happens and how parents can partner with schools to prepare and protect their own children. Bullying and cyberbullying can impact children emotionally, academically, and can result in long-standing problems. Education and awareness is the answer.

Thank you to Amy Gatchell for organizing the book fair, the team of volunteers who assisted during the week and to Ms. Maney for all of here assistance during the fair. The book fair was very successful! We sold $2,400 worth of books! The proceeds from fair will be used by to purchase more books for the library. Ms. Maney will be able to purchase $1,200 worth of books with Scholastic. |

Reeves School PTO Appliance/Freon Bearing/CRT Device Recycling Wondering what to do with that old television, computer monitor or appliance that is broken, unwanted or unused and just taking up space? Paul Medeiros has found and is working with a Massachusetts company that will collect these items at drop off sites set up throughout Woburn at various times throughout the year. This is an excellent opportunity to recycle these items at a minimal cost compared to the high cost associated with curbside appliance recycling programs and will also be a fundraiser for local organizations that will sponsor these events. Another good thing and possibly the best part of this program is that it is open to residents from any and all communities, not just Woburn, as well as any and all business entities. With your help these collections have raised over $78,000 dollars for local Woburn organizations with a portion going to the Woburn high school scholarship fund in a bit more than 3 years! So clean out those basements, attics, garages and warehouses and bring your items down! This collection will be on Saturday, March 19 from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the Reeves School located at 240 Lexington St, in Woburn and will benefit the many Reeves School and PTO projects and programs. A portion of the proceeds will be going towards the scholarship fund for a Woburn High School graduating senior that will be continuing their education in the field of environmental education.
