Joani Geltman, MSW, a therapist and parenting coach gives an informative and entertaining talk and provides parents with useful strategies for safely navigating through the changes in the brain and its impact on transitions.

You will learn about...

1. The brain on overload

  • The newness of it all, building, teachers, schedules, choices, people, and how it impacts behavior.
  • Dealing with the drama-the emotional volcano
  • Changes in thinking, and how that impacts expectations about homework, responsibilities and decision making

2. Changes in the relationship between parents and teens: what are realistic expectations?

3. Changes in Peer relationships;

  • New friends vs. old friends
  • New expectations around risky behavior-peer pressure

4. Teen proofing your home

  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Cell phones
  • Face book
  • Preparing your teen for situations they have never been in before
